MANAGING STRESS & ANXIETY WITH CBT & TRE

Join Deborah and Rebecca for this combined workshop in which you will be guided through two practices, one mind and one body based, to manage stress and anxiety.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), is a psychological approach that can help you to manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.  CBT is widely used in depression and anxiety.  It’s focus is on current problems and looks at the interactions between thoughts, moods, physical symptoms and behaviours. CBT is particularly interested in identifying unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that can trap you in vicious cycles.  

 

You will be introduced to the CBT model and learn how to map out your own cycles with an emphasis on stress and anxiety.   We will look at unhelpful thinking styles and unhelpful behaviours.  Learning to unpick your experiences in this way enables you to start to make changes in these areas, in turn this can have a positive effect on mood.

There will be time for discussion followed by a short break before we settle in for the second half of the afternoon.

TRE (Tension Releasing Exercises) is a natural and innovative way to release and manage stress through the body. Debbie is an Advanced Certified Provider of TRE and will guide you through the series of 7 simple exercises which activate a natural reflex of shaking that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system and encouraging the body to return back to a state of balance. As mammals our physiology is designed to experience, survive and release tension & trauma from the body. However due to human brain development and conditioning we have learnt to suppress this natural reflex to release tension like other mammals – by shaking! TRE is something to be experienced.

An afternoon of connecting deeply with the body to release tension, clear stress and calm the mind.

The workshop combines yoga postures with embodiment exercises, breath work and TRE (Tension Releasing Exercises).

 

TRE engages a natural reflex in our primitive brain to allow the body to shake to release stress hormones and body tension. This is the releasing part of the stress response present in all mammals, and of course we are mammals too!

 

You will take home tools to promote wellbeing and manage stress, and leave feeling a deeper sense of embodiment, presence and relaxation.

Yoga is renowned for its ability to help us recognise and manage the effects of stress on the body and mind. Ginny will teach a variety of yoga practices including gentle asana (postures) to release physical tension from areas of the body that accumulate stress in our daily lives. You will also learn specific breathing techniques that induce relaxation through the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system along with simple mindfulness and techniques, providing you with the tools to lead a calmer, healthier and happier life.

This one day workshop will cover the key concepts of TRE, Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises. It is ideal for those wishing to learn about releasing stress, anxiety or work with past trauma.

TRE or Tension Releasing Exercises, is a set of 7 exercises designed to release tension, stress and trauma from the body.
By tension we mean anything from a challenging day at work or mild anxiety, to financial or relationship stress through to single events such as car accident or bereavement – things that have happened in adulthood and also childhood right back to our birth.

As animals our physiology is designed to experience, survive and release tension from the body. You may have seen a bird fly into a window – it’s stunned, and will then shake and fly off like nothing has happened. However as human beings we have been conditioned to suppress this involuntary innate mechanism to release tension - through shaking. It’s this mechanism that the TRE's engage in a safe and regulated way.

The workshop will focus on:

- An introduction to the stress response
- The Tension Releasing Exercises and tremoring - we will have 2 'Shakes'
- Grounding
- Self-Regulaton
- Social Engagement

The aim is that you will leave grounded, calm and with the confidence to practice this fascinating self healing and organic safely at home.

Mats and blankets will be provided but please feel free to bring your own, along with water. There will be an hour break for lunch.
